Google Analytics and AdSense

Google Analytics and Adsense

If you are an AdSense publisher, you need to know about this! Google has started allowing people to link their AdSense accounts to a Google Analytics account. They are rolling it out slowly, and I just got mine hooked up a couple of days ago.

Wow! Is it great! It will tell you exactly how much each page on your site is earning in AdSense revenue. Before this, the only way to find this out was to set up a channel for each page, and if you have a lot of pages on your site, forget it.

The ongoing debate about what to focus on, content or links, has heated up again this week.

Many people are confused by this whole issue, but they need not be. I want to state my opinion and experience on this issue and hopefully help alleviate people’s confusion.

As I mentioned in my last post, I am moving away from creating AdSense-monetized blogs just for the money. I am beginning to see this as a dead end.

Sure, you can make some money this way, but it will be a constant struggle to keep your sites ranking well in Google, and meanwhile you are wasting your life writing articles about subjects you care little about. Didn’t you want to quit your day job so that you could QUIT doing the things you are not passionate about?

So, what should you choose as a niche or market for your business?

Google Will Be Tracking Surfers Who View AdSense Ads

From time to time, I question the wisdom of making most of my money online from AdSense. I had cause to question it again this past week after seeing Barry Schwartz’s post on Search Engine Land, Google To Add AdSense Features With DoubleClick Cookies Technology.

Basically, Google is now going to be tracking which sites you visit on the net (at least the ones that have AdSense), using the technology they got when they bought the DoubleClick ad network. They are going to use this capability to control how many times you see certain ads, among other things.

AdSense Privacy Policy

Do you use AdSense to monetize your site? If so, do you have a privacy policy?

Google recently updated their terms of service for AdSense. When you signed in, you had to agree to these new terms of service. But how many people actually read those things?

December 8, 2007

Do you want your images to be found easily by searchers? A popular image can help increase your search engine traffic considerably.

Now Matt Cutts of Google has produced a video explaining how Google uses the ALT tag to figure out what an image is about.

Be Careful With Gmail

A couple of days ago, I posted that I had started using gmail.

Unfortunately, I don’t recommend this any more. Or, if you do use it, be sure to back up your archived mail somewhere else as well.

My account at gmail was suddenly suspended. I have no idea why. I had to submit a support ticket to find out why, and to get it reinstated if possible. I have not heard back from Google yet.
